In the beginning there was a Fisher Price xylophone. Then a succession of Yamaha keyboards. A Farfisa electric organ on which I rehearsed sporadically and reluctantly in my teens. At 19 I adopted a lonely Spanish guitar which had been left leaning against a wall for a decade or so. Then the bass, then the guitar again.
Ashamed to sing in front of anyone, I had to go as far as Nova Scotia before my voice was brave enough to break free. Beautiful musicians lent themselves to me but armed only with an acoustic guitar I still struggled to do justice to the wealth of musical styles that inspired me so much.
Now with Pro Tools and a loop station I am able to be everyone and play everything. Not quite all at once, but the next best thing.
